How to Host the Best Valentine’s Spa at Home

Charlie Milz Hair & Beauty • Feb 05, 2023

If February crept up on you like it did us and you’re wondering how you’re supposed to enjoy Valentine’s Day without spending a fortune, then this guide is here for you to make the best at-home spa to spoil your significant other… or just any ol’ excuse to have a pamper sesh.

Get Yourself Organised

First things first in a successful spa night is to plan what you’re going to do and when. If you want hair masks, facemasks, the whole works, then you need to shop for supplies or start making some of the masks yourself if you’re going all out. Otherwise, it’s not going to be a relaxing evening if you have to go on the hunt for what you need multiple times.

Set the Scene for a Relaxing Night Ahead

One of the most important elements of a spa is having the right ambience to set the mood, so dim the lights, grab a host of scented candles and pop some music on in the background. Most spas describe themselves as an oasis of calm, but we think the key here is to have some fun.

At-Home Spa Treatments

If you’re going all out, and let’s face it, you should, kick things off by doing a full body brush. This will exfoliate any dry skin off your body, increase blood flow and when used regularly can stimulate collagen production making the skin look lifted and toned. We’re not saying if you do it once on V-day you’re going to look like JLo, but there’s certainly no harm in kick starting the festivities with a dry brush.

Following your brush down, sink into a warm bath filled with essential oils, bubbles and why not throw some flower petals in there like the bad B you are.

Post bath, it’s time to do full body moisturisation; your elbows and ankles will thank you for it. Now you’re ready for treatments, so grab your bathrobe, get your hair off your face and pour the wine; it’s time to really unwind.

How to Make an At-Home Hair Mask

Grab an egg, some honey and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and combine in a bowl. After you’ve added to your hair, leave for about 40 minutes before rinsing. The apple cider vinegar acts as a clarifying agent to remove build up on the hair while the egg enhances hair elasticity and adds shine. Meanwhile, the honey is a great moisturiser for hair, thanks to its emollient and humectant properties.

We also recommending putting in a leave-in conditioner and oil to your ends following your hair rinse to really amp up the moisture.

A Pre-Mask Face Steam

Facial steaming feels boujee but it can be a great step to relaxing you and soothing your skin, and it’s really easy to make a steam bowl at home if you haven’t got one of the expensive steamers. All you have to do is boil some water, add essential oils if you’ve got them, place your head above the bowl of steaming, scented water and pop a towel over your head to trap the steam inside.

Or, simply soak a flannel in hot water and then drape it over your face. Sit back and relax.

How to Make an At-Home Face Mask

Face masks are affordable nowadays and if you’re the type of person to invest in skincare, chances are you will have serums and active ingredients in your arsenal already. But to make the night feel more engaging and fun, try making your own from ingredients you’ve got in your kitchen. For a hydrating and moisturising facemask, you’ll need:

·       Avocado

·       Yoghurt

·       Olive oil

·       Honey

Simply mix all the ingredients together and layer onto your skin. The fatty acids in the avocado and oil will help revitalise cracks in skin cells, and the soothing compounds of yoghurt will ease your skin. You can now sit back and watch some Netflix while the ingredients get to work. When you’re done, simply wash away with warm water to reveal brighter and hydrated skin.

Don’t forget to create a lip mask either; the lips are regularly forgotten when considering treatments, but lips will be one of the first parts of you to show your age, so treat them well.

Try a lip scrub by combining sugar and honey (we’re really helping you get your money’s worth on honey here), and rub over your lips, wipe away and add lip balm for soft, kissable lips on Valentine’s Day.

For your feet, we’d recommend exfoliating socks, such as Footner , but be warned: you’ll be shedding for weeks.

Use Tools for Facial Massage

4-in-1 Jade Roller and Gua Sha Set

A spa night on Valentine’s Day should be interactive, otherwise, you’re in danger of falling asleep on the sofa. Keep the evening entertaining by using some facial tools on each other to help bring your facial muscles to life.

Jade rolling is the ideal balance between a workout for your face and a relaxing tool; the gentle pressure helps to stimulate circulation and the cooling stone is great for inflammation. Combined, a jade roller massage encourages lymphatic draining and boosts your skin’s natural detoxification; apply a face serum and work it in with this affordable skin tool.

Gua Sha is a massage technique that will relieve the muscles of the face so if you hold a lot of tension in your facial muscles, this can be a great way to combat that. Remember to use the tool in an upward and outward motion for optimal circulation. Your face after using these tools will feel less puffy and more awake.

Or, ask the person who is doing the spa night with you to massage your face if you haven’t got these tools – a guaranteed laugh and great for working in facial serums.

And that’s it girls (and guys), some really easy-to-follow tips to bring out the best in your hair and skin during your spa night this Valentine’s Day. And if all else fails, crack open a bottle of wine and eat your hair mask.
